Scolarships?
« on: October 31, 2009, 07:36:20 AM »

Well i just recently discovered that theres no way in hell i'll get approved for FAFSA, which is a financial aid calculator application. My dad is a phamacist and mom a registered nurse se... Well anyway that pretty much strikes a lot of grants ot of the picture. So does anyone know of scolarships and grants NOT based on financial need? Except from Brights future, i know about that already. Thanks

There are lots of scholarships you can find online. Some are for specific schools, and some aren't. Do some Googling, and you should be able to find some that are suitable for you.

It's almost always worth submitting your FAFSA, which is the fed gov't's financial need decision tool. I know your parents both have well-paying jobs, but some schools have absurdly high standards for income. For example, Yale discounts tuition for anyone with a family income below ~200,000/year. So if your parents combined are earning $100,000, you might think that would disqualify you from financial aid - but at Yale, at least, it wouldn't. Sure, other schools are less wealthy, but the point still stands that, unless your parents are really raking it in, FAFSA can only help you.
